Kelvin appears distant, and it is revealed that he formed an attachment to Chitose, the daughter of the hotel owner where he stayed with his father 12 years earlier. He promised to take her to the Gion festival but they did not go and he still regrets it. Ryu encourages Kelvin to try the harsh new pot whisky before it is matured in barrels for many years to let go of his regrets and mature himself.
